Biggest Fall Trends – What’s In Now and What’s Coming
Fall is one of the best seasons for fashion. There are so many unique colors, statement pieces, and fun textures that only work during fall. Obviously, there are many predictable trends based on past years and what’s already starting to trend, but there are also some things I think are going to be big this fall. Hopefully I can inspire you to step outside of your comfort zone—and the “trendy” fall fashion—to try something new.
So what’s already in?
We all know fall has one of the most iconic color schemes. Brown, tan, burgundy, forest green. These colors make up my wardrobe during fall because of how perfectly they match the time of year. Using these colors, let’s look for some fall staples.
Some of the most basic trends for fall clothing are chunky sweaters, jackets, and a classic bottom. There are so many cute places to get sweaters but right now I really love the JCrew Rollneck Sweater that’s pretty viral. Layering is the only way to survive fall and jackets are the way to go. I think suede or quilted jackets from Free People are the ultimate way to elevate any basic outfit. The last step is a pair of jeans. A good pair of jeans are the staple in any closet and necessary to complete any outfit. However, if jeans aren’t your thing, skirts with boots is something else I am currently loving. Now with bottoms, a sweater, and a jacket we have created the perfect base outfit. Next you need some shoes.

Fall is the season for shoes. Say goodbye to your flipflops and welcome in boots, loafers, and ballet flats. Boots are always a fall staple and I’ve been loving so many pairs. There are so many cute boots from Free People and Steve Madden but the most popular pair right now is the Frye boots. I love layering knee-high socks under boots to easily add more complexity to an outfit. As for loafers I’ve found a lot I like. These Dolce Vita loafer flats are the perfect way to step up an outfit while still keeping it casual. I’ve also been obsessed with these Doc Martens mary janes. For ballet flats there are so many different pairs you can get. You could get a basic black pair, or a brown or red pair to stand out.
To accessorise, I recommend scarfs and lots of jewelry. I’m obsessed with so many scarfs recently but my favorites are from Gap, Anthropologie, or Urban Outfitters. Statement jewelry has also become crucial to making any outfit stand out. Scandivv has some of the cutest, unique jewelry that I love so much.
Now what’s coming?

With fall we all know the color scheme is typically more muted and plain, but I think incorporating more bright colors is a great way to make your outfits stand out. Having bright colors like red, orange, yellow, blue, and purple are all great ways to switch up the normal fall colors. Whether you mix and match different colors or stick to one you can stand out.
Instead of basic blue jeans with every outfit, a great example of including more color is the Big News Mid Rise Wide Leg Jeans Currant from Princess Polly. Red jeans will always be unexpected—and cute. The Polartec® Thermal Pro™ 1/2 Zip Hi-hip Sweater from Aritzia is another great way to add color to your outfits.
Collars are another thing I think can spice up any outfit. Whether you wear a button up under a sweater for layering or just wear a collared polo of some sorts, there are so many ways to make a simple outfit different. Some examples of this are the Bethanne Babydoll Mini Dress White from Princess Polly, The Ainsley Ruffle-Collar Cardigan Sweater by Self Contrast from Anthropologie, or the Lomu Polo Longsleeve from Aritzia.
Another great texture that can work for fall is fringe. I’m obsessed with this Carolina Herrera Suede Shoulder Bag I found on The Real Real. It’s the perfect size and shape to elevate any look. This BlankNYC Suede Jacket is so cute in either color. I love the brown for a more simple outfit brown or you can get the green one for a statement piece.
Overall, there are so many ways you can make a statement this fall. You can stick to the basic trends or try something new. No matter what, with this guide everyone should have perfect outfits planned for fall.
